There are plenty of things to do on National Lover’s Day.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved is based on a novel by Jenny Han and it stars a teenage girl named Lara whose worst nightmare was realized. The five letters she wrote were suddenly sent out to her secret crushes and now she has to contend with her old crush Peter in hopes of him not getting in the way of her new crush Josh.

Lara and Peter then resolve to be in a fake relationship to get with their respective crushes, which we as adults know is a terrible idea.

This movie is perfect for couples who want to revisit the past, back when they were still dumb teens pining over someone.

It’s simply a fun watch.

2. Set It Up (2018)

This is for the rom-com lovers who don’t want to rewatch an old movie for the 20th time in their lifetime!

Set It Up is a romantic comedy that stars two overworked assistants who scheme to set their respective bosses to date one another. All they wanted was some precious free time but in all their plotting, they end up falling for each other. As you normally would when you bond with someone.

It’s typically as cliche as a rom-com could get, but the director played it off so well that you wouldn’t even mind.

Plus, who doesn’t like a good laugh every now and then?

3. Alex Strangelove (2018)

Here’s another rom-com that’s progressive!

The movie starts with Alex and Claire, best friends who happen to be lovers, who have decided to finally have sex. But of course, with how these movies often go, something happens that derails that plan and that comes in the form of Elliot, an openly-gay teenager.

Alex gets close to Elliot and starts to question his sexuality, which obviously puts a wrench in his relationship with Claire. It’s about as spicy as it can get, perfect for watching with your partner.

4. Always Be My Maybe (2019)

Yes, this is the movie that has Keanu Reeves doing a cameo.

Aside from the internet’s favorite person appearing to make every fangirl and fanboy squeal, the movie itself is a hoot to watch. It’s about two teenagers who were best friends but drifted apart later on. They then get pushed back together when they reach adulthood.

With both of them realizing the different path the other took, it only makes sense if their interactions make for scene-stealers.

If you’re a rom-com fan who is also a sucker for cameos (especially from Mr. Keanu “You’re-Breathtaking” Reeves himself), this movie is for you.

5. The Half of It (2020)

The Half of It is up there with To All the Boys I’ve Loved in the list of popular movies that Netflix really dished out.

This movie stars three teenagers searching for their identity. It just so happens that they are also looking for their first love. Of course, with how these movies go, it’s not a surprise to find them all wrapped up in a messy, love triangle. One that never feels exploitative or cheap.

If you ever want to take a gander at a self-aware teen romance, either to enjoy or to make fun of, watch The Half of It. It’s gorgeously shot, nicely paced, and is chock-full of characters you can’t help but root for.

6. Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018)

Another teen flick, but this time is more wholesome than the rest on this list!

While Sierra Burgess Is a Loser is mostly a romantic comedy, it also centers around friendship, self-confidence, and search for identity, with one of the greatest cliches in the history of forever:

The typical mean girl turning good trope.

Biased opinion aside, this movie is perfect for those who want to watch something wholesome come out of a typical high school drama.

It starts with the mean cheerleader giving the wrong number to an insistent popular jock. The number she gave is Sierra’s, our main character, and it ends with her and the jock falling in love while she becomes friends with the cheerleader.

If you think that’s something you and your partner can enjoy, watch it.

Enjoy a night of nothing but Netflix (and Chill)

If sitting on a couch with your partner and having a bowl of popcorn in between you is something you two enjoy as a couple, it’s considered a date.

It may not be as fancy as dining in a five-star restaurant, or adventurous as going on a vacation somewhere, but every couple differs.

National Lover’s Day is different for everyone. The point here is you get to have a second Valentine’s Day minus the commercialism.
